People with Learning Difficulties in Control

On 11th January 2008 the Board and members voted for Connect in the North to be controlled only by people with learning difficulties. 

Non-disabled people cannot vote or decide how the organisation is run.

Breaking Chains

Becoming a Centre for Inclusive living

Connect in the North is working towards becoming a Centre for Inclusive living. 

This means Connect in the North wants to be:

  • Committed to inclusive living 

  • Following the social model

  • Supporting people to employ their own staff

  • Delivering training in equality

  • Giving advice and information about individual budgets

  • Making a register of staff trained by people with learning difficulties 

People's Rights "Respecting Me for Who I am" Campaign

 A group of people with learning difficulties, based in Wakefield want people to join them campaign. 

 They want people to respect them for who they are.
